Beginners Blossom Needle Turn Applique-NE Ohio

This class is for those who are new to needle turn appliqué or for those who may have tried it in the past and have struggled with it. This class offers several skills to learn. Students will learn to do inside and outside points and curves, they will learn to make a bias stem, and they have the opportunity to learn reverse appliqué (if they want to) on the insides of the flower petals. I have my own personal tips to make points much easier. They will also learn how to make an overlay and how to create templates from freezer paper.

Supply list:

-One 12” x 12” light background fabric square

-A dark green strip of fabric for the flower stem cut at 5/8” x 8”

-Scraps of purple, gold, orange, and green (or choose your own color combo) The largest piece you will need is for the flower petals and a 9” x 9 Square will be plenty

-Threads to match all appliqué fabrics

-Fine-tipped permanent black marker

-Mechanical pencil

-Paper scissors

-Basting thread or fabric glue stick

-Clover bias maker #6…makes the ¼” strip

-Fabric scissors

-Small sharp pair of clipping scissors

-Erasable markers (light and dark)

-Pins (regular or appliqué)

*Instructor will provide freezer paper, laminate film sheet, and the pattern.

** For the sake of time during this 3-hour class. Our goal will be to appliqué the stem, a couple of the flower petals, and a leaf. Once you have had some practice on these you should feel confident to complete the remainder of the block at home.

Sewing machines will be generously provided by Bernina/ Chestnut Ridge Sewing

Shared cutting mats, rotary cutters and irons will be provided.
