About the event
Boutis (pronounced boo-tee’) is a French form of quilting. Instead of layering a top, the batting, and a backing as with traditional quilting, you stitch (or quilt) your design on a top and a backing only with NO batting between them. Yarn is then used to go back and stuff specific areas between the stitching. It ends up looking like trapunto and, depending on the threads and stitches, can look very elegant. As an introduction to the technique-Students will get to choose a small project…a pincushion or a holiday ornament.
Supply list:
-5” embroidery hoop
-Basting thread
-Needles to baste the fabric squares together and also stitch the design (I use #9 sharps)
-Spool of white hand quilting thread
