About the event

The historic art of traditional hand hooked rugs has been admired since colonial times. Like many forms of art, hooked rugs were made out of necessity, utilizing scraps and upcycling. By pulling up one loop at a time you can create a beautiful 6” by 6” heirloom textile. This class is for the beginner. The cost of the kit is $31.00 which contains a pattern drawn on linen, a hook, wool binding to finish off the back and hand dyed cut wool strips to make your hand hooked rug candle mat. In class you will learn everything you need to know to complete the pattern at home. Please bring embroidery scissors and a 7" or 8” embroidery hoop.

Juliana is a certified rug hooking teacher whose main objective is to teach students to create their own textile art. She finds the slow aspect of rug hooking and creating, very healing. Her early formal training is in advertising and design. Currently, she teaches adults in her home, at Tyler Park Center for the Arts and at The Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, in Lancaster. She has also taught homeschool classes in both rug hooking and dyeing. She is proud to have had her rugs published in Celebration of Hand Hooked Rugs 20, Celebration of Hand Hooked Rugs 24, Hooking Animals and Design Basics for Rug Hookers. She has also recently achieved Master Artisan status at the PA Guild of Craftsmen. It is her joy to help you fabricate art. To see more of her work visit
